Equipment list for isolated dog heart procedure

PC with data acquisition hardware/software
Chart recorder
Biplane fluoro
Plastic isolated heart container with tilt device
Mitral plug with balloon, water filled, air free
Backup balloon setup, air free
Aortic plug/cannula with lead bead
Infusion pump with linear output voltage
2 50 ml glass syringes in parallel, gives > 50 ml infusion
Connect potentiometer to Coulbourn 5v supply for good chart signal
Don't try to calibrate on chart (0 volume <> 0 volts), just use a reasonable range
Pressure transducer, tape
VCR's, timecode generators with data acquisition signal
Cardioplegic, arrest solutions
Apical suction and beaker with fluid below table

A/D Channels:

1 - Pressure (0-120 mmHg)
2 - Volume (0-50 ml)
3 - Pressure (0-120 mmHg)
4 - 1 Hz timing pulse

Chart:

Pressure (0-30)
1 Hz signal with reset
Pressure (0-120)
Volume (0-50)
Data acquisition signal from Coulbourn (on/off)

Cardioplegic solutions:

(1) 500 ml Hypothermic Cardioplegic Solution (CPS):

To make 0.5 liter CPS add: NaCl 2.0g; KCl 1.25g; Glucose 1.0g; NaHCO3 0.5g; Nifedipine 0.0001g; BDM 1.5g -- fill to 500 ml with deionized water.

(2) Hypothermic arrest solution (120 ml of 10% KCl): 12g KCl, fill to 120 ml with CPS

(3) 250 ml Room Temp Perfusion Solution (RPS):

To make 0.25 liter RPS: Use drip bag with 250 ml 6% Dextran, .9% NaCl
add .25 ml Nifedipine solution, .25g NaHCO3 and .75g BDM
Nifedipine: Dissolve 10mg in Ethyl alcohol, fill to 50 ml with CPS, use 1 ml per liter CPS
